Looking for a nice, inexpensive hotel in New Orleans?

We're traveling to New Orleans next month and would like to find a relatively inexpensive place to stay. We will not have a car, so the closer to the "fun stuff" the better. Could you please recommend a decent hotel, and tell me why it's the best one for our purposes? Thanks so much in advance!

  1. You can try hotel search in http://www.AmericaCheapHotels.com where you can read hotel details, reviews and comments, see photos and its physical locations through maps, details about important nearby locations .... Best thing is you can compare the USA/worldwide hotel prices in any city in any country in your local currency. You can find good deals because this compares hotel prices from 30 best travel websites. You can even able to filter out hotel by its features such as Star hotels,Business Center, Room Service, High-speed Internet, Fitness Room, Restaurant Parking, Swimming pool, Pets Allowed, Airport shuttle, Handicap Accessible, Concierge ... Access lots of USA and worldwide travel information.
  2. Stay in the French Quarter if you can. Check www.frenchquarterhotels.com for some non-chain properties and search sites like Orbitz and Travelocity for deals. Also check the hotel websites. Watch out for hotels that claim they are "steps" or "minutes" from the French Quarter. Find out exactly where they are located and check on a map. Most hotels that are outside the FQ but in the Central Bisiness District are still withing easy walking distance of the FQ but check the distance on a map. If you might want to stay in one call them and ask the distance to Jackson Square rather than "to the French Quarter". The FQ is an area and most hotels measure the distance to the edge of the FQ. The Hotel Villa Convento is often the least expensive hotel in the French Quarter: www.villaconvento.com Hope you have a great time!
  3. i would like to suggest the Hotel Mon Pantalon, its on 69 rue écrou.
  4. The Quarter House. Me and my friends always stay there. The rates on the site are higher than what we generally pay, but check out the link below and call. It's walking distance to the Quarter, The Riverfront, the casino's, the streetcars, the restaurants. If you want something cheaper, try the Marriott on Canal. Its on the outskirt of the quarter but still within walking distance to everything. New Orleans native
  5. try http://www.hotwire.com/ and select something in the french quarter. they have great deals and you should be fine with anything that is listed in the french quarter. They rate by stars but you wont know exact hotel until you purchase but i have had good luck for the price every time i use this site (you should be fine with a 3 star but I woulnt go below, if can afford above better luck). As I said just select the french quarter option though.
