What is a good hotel to stay at on Bourbon St. in New Orleans?

I've been once and stayed at the Royal Sonesta. I liked it but it was kind of on the far end of Bourbon St. sort of away from everything.

  1. Unsure which end of Bourbon you want to be on but the Astor Crowne Plaza is at the corner of Bourbon and Canal. Is there a club or restaurant you would like to be near? Otherwise this is a good choice.
  2. Are you sure you stayed at the Royal Sonesta? The first 7 blocks of Bourbon is the area with all the street-partying, strip clubs and music clubs, and the RS is in the 300 block. It is absolutely in the middle of "everything". There are only four hotels actually on Bourbon Street - The Astor (a Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza), the Royal Sonesta, the Inn on Bourbon (a Ramada), and the Bourbon-Orleans. Of those, the Royal Sonesta and the Inn on Bourbon are the only ones with their main entrances on Bourbon. The Astor is at Canal and Bourbon (main entrance on Canal) and the Bourbon-Orleans is at the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans (main entrance on Orleans). However, there are lots of hotels in the FQ and you can choose where you want to stay and what type of property you want to use. Go to www.frenchquarterhotels.com for some non-chain hotels.
  3. The Inn on Bourbon is your best bet. It's the closest hotel on Bourbon to the most popular hangouts.
  4. try doing a web search for french quarter rentals--you may be able to find a private apt for rent. for a decent price since it's between mardi gras and the jazz fest right now
