New Orleans hotel/motel?
Going to help rebuild and need a couple nights at a hotel/motel coming and going. Flying in to Armstrong Airport late, staying at Camp Hope for the duration, then a night before flying out again. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, needs to have a pool! :)thanks

- hum depends on what you wanna spend, if you wanna see the city some, as in the toursit things, try somewhere downtown, it wouldn't help to name names beacsue well just about every major moderate to upscale hotel plus local hotels are downtown somewhere. if you just want a cheap place to crash try something near the airport or in the metarie area, again just about every cheap to moderately priced hotel is there for you picking, i suggest doing reserach on several different sites and comparing prices and reviews. Yahoo travel, Hotels.com , nola.com also has a section for hotels, priceline.com orbitz.com expedia.com and so on.
- Depending on where you stay, there are a variety of options for you. If you want to be right next to the airport, you can stay at the Airport Hilton. If you want an authentic French Quarter experience, it's going to cost you. However, downtown hotels such as the Intercontinental and Le Pavilion have decent, reasonable rates and aren't too far from the historic and tourist spots.
- In my opinion the best place to stay in New Orleans is Maison DuBois Bed and Breakfast. They have a wonderful luxury salt water pool and spa in their private courtyard. I am sure their hot tub will be calling your name after your re-building efforts (I know it was when I did the same). The suites are all very nice and spacious. And the location cant be beat. Located in a quiet nook of the french quarter they are walkable to all restaurants, bars, music venues, flea market, aquarium and other sites in the French Quarter. It is also accessible to all other areas of the city. The manager there is very helpful with local recommendations and assisting with reservations. You can check out their website for a virtual tour and additional information. The city is a short flat rate cab ride of $28 from/to the airport and will only take about 20 minutes. I would definately recommend spending your remaining time relaxing in the city rather than out by the airport where things are still in the rebuilding stages and there is not much to do. http://maisondubois.net/
- The other answers are correct and your choice may depend on what you want to do for "a night" before you fly out. This is a good link to some non-chain hotels in the French Quarter and many of them have pools: http://www.frenchquarterhotels.com/ If you just want a decent hotel (with a pool) so you can clean up, relax, and get a good night's sleep, you should stay at one of the hotels near the airport. Most of the hotel chains are there - search for hotels in "Kenner, LA". Those hotels will also have a shuttle, so getting to the airport the next day will probably be free. Wherever you stay, call the front desk and ask if they offer a "volunteer rate". Some do, but it isn't on their website. Thank you for helping!
