New Orleans residents....Travel Advice....? Hello! My husband and I will be in New Orleans the first week of May. I was wondering what the "must see" sites are from a resident....we're particularly interested in trying new restaurants and anything historical (which I hear you have plenty to offer!!). Also....we wanted to know if there was anyway we can give back to the community while we are there. It would be great to spend some time helping out where we can, since we know there is still so much rebuilding that needs to be done. I have a medical background, and have worked with Habitat for Humanity in the past....any suggestions??

Travel to New Orleans for vacation...? Is New Orleans back in business? Are there things to do? I'd like to fly and stay somewhere where I am in walking distance of everything, I don't want to rent a car. Is the French Quarter a good spot for this? I want to go to experience the history, do some sightseeing, dine out, shop a little, and drink and party at night. I'm not interested in going for Mardi Gras...will there be anything to do? I'm not sure if the city is back to its glory since Hurricane Katrina... Has anyone gone recently or from there? Just me and my fiance going. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, which hotel or B&B would be best to stay in? I love history and would like to stay in a local hotel rather than a chain.

Would anyone be in trested in a canoe trip from Cable Wi. to new Orleans La. Via canoe travel? Ok heres the plan. Leave early march from the headwaters of the Namakagon river (lake Namakagon) just east of Cable Wi. and head down river to the St. Croix river where it meets up with the Mississpi river. It sounds undoable but I know it's not..with the right planning and the right partner. I think this would be the adventure of a lifetime for the 2 right people..or a group if so happens. This will obviosly take some time and planning.I would also like some input on how to get sponsorship on doing this for charity...particularly for underprivileged kids in MY country...hell the Gov in this country could giva crap about the kids here so I would like to help the kids here. And if at all I think 50 % of all if any donations should go to displaced NewOrleans familys from Katrina. I want to do this for and an adventure and to help.I hope some of you out there are intrested...anyone who is can email me at karlanax68@yahoo.com with any commebts or suggestions lets have some fun canoeing.!!!

Travelling to New Orleans, can you spare some insider tips? My girlfriend and I are traveling to NOLA in three weeks. We just wanted to know if there are any insider tips or places to go that are better than some? For example, there are a multitude of ghost tours, which is the best? Or, there are a multitude of air boat swamp rides, which is the best? I know this last question is kind of random, (but necessary for the possibility of a certain third person traveling) are there public restrooms around town or are they pretty hard to find? Will it be pretty easy to locate a restroom in an emergency? Thanks for your help community!
