How do you calculate the 13% sales charge added to New Orleans Hotels? I'm going to New Orleans in a couple weeks for Mardi Gras! I have already paid for my hotel in full but the confirmation says I have to pay 13% sales tax and an occupancy tax. I'm not from America, I live in the UK and don't know US taxes. Is that 13% of the total room rate or something else? How is it calculated? The occupancy tax is $1 per night. The room rate was $279 per night.

Has anyone stayed at the W New Orleans Hotel? We are taking a small little family vacation in March. We live in Baton Rouge, but that is a fairly new hotel i think, so dont know much about it. We are going to take the kids to the Zoo, and the Aquarium, and to the new Insectarium they have there, and do all sorts of fun things with them. And maybe if im sneaky, mommy might get a hurricane! The kids cant wait, something about them knowing the get to eat out for every meal is an adventure in itself!! I just wanted to know if anyone stayed there, if they liked it or not. thanks yall! Good! thank you! Im so excited! Probably more than the kids! I love New Orleans, but dont get to go often anymore. Although, i have to say, this time it will be a different experience for us. We dont usually go with our kids, if you catch my drift, lol. So, no strip clubs! heehee

Hotel in New Orleans with nice firm bed? Hi, We are making a visit to NOLA again this year for the week between Christmas and New Years. Last year I booked us into a smaller boutique hotel with lots of charm and ambiance (or so I thought from the website) but the bed was absolutely horrible and we switched after two nights to the Monteleone. I would like to find a nice older hotel (but with working A/C) with nice firm beds. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel, chain or not, with firmer bedding?

Can anyone recommend a nice (but not too pricey) hotel in New Orleans ? Going in New Orleans, one night only, but I want to stay somewhere decent that isn't too expensive(not over $100 a night). The hotel I normally stay at is still not operating after Katrina...Everything on hotels.com, travelocity, etc gives such mixed reviews that I don't know what to trust! I would like to hear from people that have been recently. I need to restate that I would like answers from people who have actually BEEN to New Orleans lately, not just random advice from people that live in Florida but have not been to New Orleans. Thanks to those that paid attention to the question!
Anyone want to go 1/2-sies with me and get Micheal Moore a hotel in New Orleans Monday? It appears HE, just like Fowler finds the devistaion of peoples lives amusing..... Says Moore: "Gustav is proof that there is a God in Heaven." He made the comment on Keith Olbermann's show Countdown on MSNBC. Moore was quick to add that he hopes nobody gets hurt and that people will take cover from the storm, which is set to hit the Gulf Coast on Monday.

How do I get a decent hotel reservation for mardi gras in new orleans? I thought I was starting early enough by looking now, but all the french quarter hotels are either booked or you have to stay there for a certain number of nights. Is there a secret to getting into one of these places? Or should I just go to a travel agent and see what they can come up with? Also, if I do end up in a hotel that isn't walking distance, is it realistic to think that I will be able to take a cab to bourbon street and then back home?
What hotel would you recommend to stay in New Orleans? I'm going to be visiting in April and would like to stay at a really nice hotel-somewhere with a gym, pool, spa, and possibly a view of the city and that's more on the luxury side. I don't want to stay at a chain like the W or the Marriot but somewhere that has the New Orleans "feel" to it. Thanks!
What's the best affordable hotel to stay at in New Orleans near House of Blues? I want a place within walking distance of the House of Blues, best price, safe, parking on-site is preferable. I'd like to stay at a place like Chateau Sonesta or Hotel Montelione, but I'd sacrifice that niceness for affordable comfort. $100/nite would be more my budget. I'll be there January 13-15th. Thanks for your help.
What hotel do the bands who play at House of Blues New Orleans stay at? I am going to New Orleans for the first time in January, and I'll also be seeing some shows at House Of Blues while I'm there. We want to stay at the best hotel in the area that's close to this location. My guess is that the bands are probably taken care of quite well by HOB, and they would have the same needs and standards as I do, so wherever they stay is where I want to stay! thank you
Which W Hotel in New Orleans? Doing a road trip to New Orleans - which W hotel should we stay at? New Orleans...the "Hotel Rowanda" of America? While watching the movie "Hotel Rowanda", I could not help the irony of hearing the statement of when the UN left..." your white friends have abandonded you" Yet it was between the two factions WITHIN Rowanda the were hacking each other to death...like "whitey" drove them to such a level of barbarism, and genocide. And now we see the lawlessness in New Orleans...rampant murder, rape, robberies, assault...whom now to pass the buck on this problem?
Hotel parking in New Orleans near cruise ships? Where can we stay in New Orleans before we go on a cruise and leave our car, while on the cruise, for less than 12.00 a day ? we have not gone yet but I am thinking we are going to go with one of the hotels that charge a little less for parking and leave our car at the hotel. Age to check into these hotels in New Orleans? A group of friends and I are wanting to take a trip to New Orleans, we found two hotels that we are considering staying at, they are the Royal St. Charles Hotel and Comfort Inn & Suites, both are downtown and blocks away from French Quarter. We are all 18 and 19. Would we be able to check in to either of these? I have checked the websites but they do not say anything about age to check in.
