First Cruise to Mexico with a 13 year old? Travel agent needed or not? I am planning a cruise with my daughter, who will be 13 at the time of travel. I saw a nice 4 day cruise from New Orleans port to one destination at Cozumel Mexico. Then back to the port. This will be my first time on a cruise and out of the states. I am leaning toward Carnival b/c of the teenager activities and price. However I am nervous doing this myself. I called Carnival's 800 #, but the CSR wasn't help either. He was trying to sell this and that, but he wasn't answering my questions. Like if I go to Mexico will I have to get different money? Do I need a passport, is my room the anchor or stern...etc. I felt like I was getting on his nerves. Do you recommend I use a travel agent, or do they try to sell you everything also. In addition, what questions do you recommend I ask and what should I say no to...thanks
Why are there no cruises in May from these ports? My husband and I recently returned from our first cruise. We want to take another one next May. Carnival Cruise over oil spill? what difference will it make if I cruise from New Orleans to Mexico since there has been an oil spill? will it smell up the ship or what? thanks
Should I sue my step-father? Here I was working out of the country, I was scheduled to come home on leave. My boyfriend, daughter and I wanted to go on a cruise, so my step-father asked if he could charge cruise tickets on his credit card and keep the cash, which he said he needed badly. I didn't mind. I paid him after I got verification the tickets in paid for in, mine, my boyfriend's and daughter's name. When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, they canceled the cruise from New Orleans and issued a refund to my step-father's credit card. He refuses to give me the money. Now all I have is this Travelocity Travel Gnome, I got for using travelocity and he has $2,176.00. My mother is a hateful and vengeful person, none of my sisters talk to her or want anything to do with or her. And there is no telling what she will do. My son is begging: Please don't sue grandpa. And I was told just because you win a judgement, don't mean they will pay. I do have all the reciepts and emails from Carnival Cruise and him. My sisters fear, my mother will do something revengeful and think it is not worth stirring her up.
Help! The weather for a Carnival cruise to Cozumel? I'm leaving for a cruise to Cozumel from New Orleans on Thursday and I live in Pennsylvania with very low temperatures. What should I expect the weather to be like? Should I pack summer dresses, sandals, or jeans and flats? Are boots appropriate?
Any info, advice, or don'ts for a Carnival Triumph cruise in March? 5 day cruise leaving from New Orleans, LA. stopping in Progreso and Cozumel. How can I get this money into my bank account? I bank with a small bank in Texas, and the only locations are in Texas. My husband and I are going on a cruise leaving from New Orleans, and as you may know the ship will be deducting our spending out of my bank account. The problem is... My mother lives in Louisiana and we will be staying at her house before we set off, and she is giving me money for the cruise as a wedding gift. How in the world can I get this money into my bank account. She banks with Wachovia, is there any way she could transfer the money into my bank in Texas?
What is the best option for Cruising out of New Orleans, Galveston, or Mobile? It will be our first cruise.? First time cruisers here. We will be going on vacation in February or March. We probably will take a four or five day cruise, but are considering a weeklong cruise. My main concerns are best companies to cruise with, dining experience, budget, oppurtunities for a young married couple getting away from the kids for the first time, and i'd love to hear horror stories and good experiences. Please be honest...if you think you had a fluke experience tell me...but please explain what happened as well. If it happened to a lot of people, it could happen to us too!

I was also wondering if anyone else was going on the same cruise on August 2- August 6,2007? Oh yeah and if you have been on the boat can you please describe it? This will be my first cruise. BTW what are good things for teenagers to do? Thanks Also I need to know what to bring with me?
Cruising on the Norwegian Spirit--Our First Cruise & 25th Anniversary? We are cruising on the Norwegian Spirit in December from New Orleans. We will be onboard for 8 days with stops in Roatan, Honduras, Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala, Belize and Cozumel. Any thoughts on things we really shouldn't miss, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated. We are basically quiet and enjoy relaxing with a good book when on vacation, not really into large, rowdy groups. So any and all info (positive and negative). We are also interested in knowing what temperatures we might expect. And a question for the ladies, is it OK to wear white pants or skirts. We are from the New Orleans area and white is out during this time of year. The thermometer might say 80 in New Orleans but the calender says December so you go with winter colors.
Does this not prove that oil is destroying our planet? NEW ORLEANS - Dozens of cargo ships, petrochemical tankers and smaller vessels stacked up Thursday near a closed stretch of the Mississippi River, a day after a collision between a barge and tanker spilled more than 400,000 gallons of fuel oil into the nation's busy shipping waterway. The Coast Guard said reopening nearly 100 miles of river to ship traffic could take days, and efforts to clean up the oily sheen left by largest oil spill on the river since 2000 could take weeks. Many of the ships waited at the river's Gulf of Mexico outlet to head upriver to grain and petrochemical terminals above New Orleans, one of the world's busiest ports. Only about 6,900 gallons of oil had been cleaned from the fast-flowing river by midday Thursday, a fraction of the 419,000 gallons stored aboard the barge that split open early Wednesday in the collision with the Liberian-flagged tanker Tintomara. The Coast Guard said 38 southbound vessels and 21 northbound vessels had been halted, a stackup expected to grow. Grain barges moving south from the American heartland were able to reach huge elevators at the Port of South Louisiana — upriver from New Orleans — but grain cargo ships were unable to continue out through the Gulf of Mexico. A cruise ship scheduled to dock in New Orleans on Friday night probably will be unable to do so, said Coast Guard Capt. Lincoln Stroh, captain of the port of New Orleans. The 2,056-passenger Fantasy is readying contingency plans to dock in nearby Mobile, Ala., if needed, said Tim Gallagher, spokesman for Carnival Cruise Lines. Meanwhile, it was unclear how the ship stoppage would impact the flow of refined products from the 10 petroleum plants that line the river between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La. Calls to refinery officials seeking comment were not immediately returned. But imports of crude oil did not appear to be affected. About 15 percent of U.S. oil imports come through the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port along the coast — the only U.S. port capable of handling the largest oil tankers. The complex is linked by pipeline to refineries. Meanwhile, John Hyatt, vice president of Irwin Brown Co., a New Orleans-based freight forwarder, said it was too early to estimate the overall costs of the shutdown. But he said he expected the tab would quickly climb into the millions of dollars. Paul Book, vice president of American Commercial Lines Inc. of Jeffersonville, Ind., which owns the barge, said about 350 cleanup workers deployed using 45 boats. They initially set out about 50,000 feet of containment booms to collect the fuel oil and planned to lay down another 30,000 feet while some used vacuum skimmers. "This is a very large, very fast-moving river. It makes the job very difficult to contain the oil," said Charlie Henry, scientific coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. State authorities were optimistic environmental damage could be contained, reporting no problems from air quality tests as wildlife officials reported spotting only a few ducks and one egret coated with oil. The fuel oil was expected to join farm chemical runoff and other pollutants dumped in along the Mississippi's 2,300-mile length and its tributaries. The oil spill was the largest on the river since November 2000, when a tanker ran aground about 40 miles south of New Orleans, spilling more than half a million gallons of crude oil on the Mississippi. That spill closed about 26 miles of the river. At the Port of New Orleans, spokesman Chris Bonura said the port stands to lose about $100,000 in fee revenues each day the river stretch remains closed. At the Port of South Louisiana, spanning 54 river miles between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, work was limited to unloading ships already in port, said spokesman Lester Millet. Michael Lorino, president of the Associated Branch Pilots, which guides ships from the Gulf into the Mississippi mouth, reported a backlog of 25 ships in the Gulf and said the line could grow by as many as 20 a day. Meanwhile, authorities said they were investigating why the tugboat towing the barge did not have a properly licensed pilot, the Coast Guard said. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau said the person operating the tug, who was not identified, had an apprentice mate's license.
Menu for restaurants on NCL Spirit? I am going on a 7 day cruise in january to the western caribbean leaving from new orleans on the norwegian spirit. I recently fully recovered from an eating disorder and am pretty nervous about food on the cruise and am hoping to prepare myself before i go so i can have an enjoyable trip. If anyone has the menus from the restaurants, I would greatly appreciate seeing them. I know that the garden and window restaurant menus are the same and change each night, and that they have 'themes' for each night, so if anyone has menus for these themes or would know which nights the theme usually are that would be great. also, menus for the other specialty restaurants and the restaurants included in the cruise. also, does anyone know which restaurants are open for which meals and what is served at each meal? thanks! i appreciate any and all info on this topic!
Carnival ectasy made us to cruise on sep 11 , the day before hurrican ike hit galveston, legal advise please!!? We didn't want to go to galveston, becuase of the hurricane ike, but the cruise company said we would lose $ 1500(the ticket price for me , my husband and 2.5 yeras old baby), if we don't cruise. They told that either we should use the cruise or lose money, they can't reschdule the cruise, or cancel the cruise.Since we didn't want to lose money , we decided to go.We called for Taxi to go from houston to galveson .but no taxi was available to come to galveston on that day.So we took our car and went to galveston .while onboarding the ship they told us that we are not going to Cozumel, due to hurricane , but we are goin to veracruz on saturday sep 13 (we booked the cruise for galveston -> cozumel->Galveston) .On sep 12 early morning around 2-3 am in the morning the ship was too shaky , we felt as if we were going to fall down from our bed.The bed was not flat.It was in an sloping angle. The captain said that it was due to hurricane IKE , and we were 75 miles away from the hurricane. Just 75 miles . Oh my GOD what would have happened if the wind just shifted direction and the hurricane came towards us.How can the ship comapny take risk of our lives for their business? We were supposed to return to Galveston on Monday morning 8 am.But on Sunday evening around 5pm , they announced that due to hurricane , we are going to New orleans on Tuesday afternoon 2 pm. From there we are on our own to go to houston , if we want.Carnival won't pay for the commute . This is too bad.We lost our car parked in Galveston. We lost 2-3 working days.we had to fly from new orleans to houston on our own.Is there any website where i can get legal advise to ask carnival to pay for our loss?

loss of cabin pressure??? the other day i was on a flight from new orleans to chicago and about 35 min into the flight our oxygen masks dropped. we had to put them on and get in the crash position. we landed back in new orleans in about 20 min from when this happened.. the pilots never did say we were at our cruising altitude and the flight attendents never did get up to start delivering drinks.. which in 35 min should have happened... i am wondering what happened.. i assume the pilots new something was wrong before the oxygen masks dropped... also i am wondering how common this is and what kind of danger we were in or was it not as bad as it seemed (it was very scary) i was traveling with my 2 month old and needless to say i wasnt about to get back on a plane so we drove home. also they did ground this plane and make everyone rebook flights. so something was obviously wrong right... they said the plane was not safe to fly..

Are the New Years Eve steamboat cruises in New Orleans worth the cost? I was looking for something more interesting/tasteful to do on new years than partying on bourbon st. I was looking at the Natchez cruise $175, and the New Orleans midnight fireworks cruise $99. I was worried that they might be more like over priced "royal fork" (low quality family buffet chain) with an open bar. Has anyone heard anything about them or been?
Carnival cruise to Costa Maya and Cozumel-New Orleans or Mobile? I'm planning my Carnival cruise for the end of January or early February. Both are 5 days. Fantasy: New Orleans, Louisiana; Costa Maya; Cozumel; New Orleans Holiday: Mobile, Alabama; Costa Maya; Cozumel; Mobile Both have the same itinerary as well. I don't know where to port out of, as both places have convenient times. Do you recommend those locations or should I try a whole new cruise?
Hotel parking in New Orleans near cruise ships? Where can we stay in New Orleans before we go on a cruise and leave our car, while on the cruise, for less than 12.00 a day ? we have not gone yet but I am thinking we are going to go with one of the hotels that charge a little less for parking and leave our car at the hotel. It will still cost but not as much as the cruise ships parking. Thanks to all who answered sincerely.
What is something interesting to do on New Years Eve in New Orleans? I am spending New years eve in New orleans and was looking for something more interesting (or at least more tasteful) than spending it on bourbon st. Has anyone ever taken the new years steamboat cruise on the Natchez? Its $175 with an open bar, is it worth it? Is it only adults, or is it like a normal night when they allow children? I was asking about the kids because i didnt want to go somewhere with kids running around, NOT because i have kids to bring.
Spending a couple of days in New Orleans, What should I be sure to see? We are landing on a Saturday afternoon, and our cruise ship leaves on Monday Afternoon. Any thoughts on where to go, what to see, things to do. Even where is the best place for our hotel ( we haven't selected one yet, and don't know if it should be near the cruise port or airport.) any thoughts would be useful.

Now know we are not black and would like to find room where it was at least mixed. Bourbon street is main location we find on puter can anyone tell me if this area would be safe for us old people lol. By safe I mean I do not want to take my wife to an area that may be rough in any way. Is there such an area in there? We have never been there just heard news and stories. sorry ment to say we want to go to lol. Also we would want to go the week before the 4th. Safe place to stay in New Orleans? I will be taking a cruise this summer and staying at the La Quinta hotel at 12340 I-10 Service Rd, couple of days before the cruise. Is this a safe area? thanks.
Day trip to New Orleans/ BR My mom and I will be headed to Baton Rouge and New Orleans for my future sister in law's bridal shower. We have all of Saturday to explore the area. What are your suggestions of summing up NOLA? We will be back around Christmas time to go on a cruise for my the wedding and will have one more day then. But what should we do on Saturday?
I will be going to New Orleans in a few days for vacation. Are people wearing shorts down there? I want to know what kind of clothes to pack. Should I even bother to bring shorts? Do I need to bring a coat or jacket? Any additional information is welcomed! Also, feel free to add any tourist ideas, etc. We will be going to Hornets vs. Cavs, DDay Museum, Audubon Zoo & Aquarium, Imax, & a paddle-boat cruise. I asked this question, "Are people wearing shorts down there?" If you live in New Orleans, go outside during the day, look around and tell me if you see more than one person wearing shorts. I am from Cleveland and cold does not bother me at all. My hotel will be in the French quarter, right in there with the arena and the zoo. Our hotel and alll our activities are located very close so that we wouldnt need to get a rental car. Not trying to risk a DUI. I got to get back to work on the Seventh... cant be in a holding cell!
Should the military purchase cruise ships? In the past two years there have been two instances where thousands of Americans needed to be evacuated. Beruit and New Orleans. These cruise ships could be under the command of the Navy and Coast Guard. They would be kept at US naval facilities throughout the world. It would be up to the military to keep them ready to go at a moments notice. Just a thought. It has taken at least a week in both instances to get to these people out of harms way. Yes they have transport ships but like you said they are in service somewhere. If you had ships emtpy and kept ready to go at a moments notice it would drasticlly cut down the to response time to evacuating citizens. For all of you who think that it is faster to rent them, why has it taken a week to get our people of Beruit? Because there were no ships available right away.
I need help in choosing the best cruise ship- any advice? We are planning to go cruising in the Western Caribbean in February. We want to port in New Orleans so we can catch Mardi Gras. The only one I can find so far is from Carnival- the Fantasy ship. The ratings for it were pretty poor. Has anyone ever sailed this cruise, and do you know anything about the ship? Is there any way to get the ABSOLUTE best deal or tips to upgrade rooms for free? Ive never cruised before, and seriously need some tips. Please help!
When is a safe time of year to cruise the Caribbean? My family would like to do a Disney Cruise and I don't want to risk getting in a big storm or hurricane. Are there times of the year that are less risky than others?? I was in New Orleans in July once and there was a big gulf storm. Is winter better?
Where should we go on vacation next? So far we have gone to California,Puerta Vallarta,Cancun,Cozumel,New Orleans, and Aruba. We are thinking Bora Bora or maybe Curacao.
